APPLIANCE SPECIALISTS · REPAIR GUIDES

Should you repair or replace your appliance?

Compare a repair quote with replacement, installation and the condition of the appliance before deciding.

Get a diagnosis before comparing costs.

A symptom does not tell you the final repair cost. Ask what has been identified, which work is proposed and whether parts or another visit are needed. An assessment gives you a clearer basis for deciding than an online estimate for a guessed part.

Compare the complete options.

For repair, ask about the total proposed charge, parts availability, timing and warranty terms. For replacement, consider delivery, installation, removal and any changes needed to fit the space. A purchase price alone may not reflect the whole replacement cost.

Consider condition and fit.

Think about previous faults, overall condition and whether the appliance still meets your needs. For a built-in or stacked appliance, check dimensions and compatibility before ordering a replacement. Check existing manufacturer or retailer coverage before approving paid work.

There is no single age or price percentage that makes every decision right. A straightforward repair on an otherwise suitable appliance is a different choice from repeated faults with uncertain parts availability.

Ask for an explanation you can act on.

You can ask: “What does this repair address, what is included, and what happens if a second issue is found?” Discuss your priorities, including urgency and budget. Appliance Specialists explains the findings and proposed work before you decide whether to proceed.

Compare the two choices on the same basis.

Write down what the repair quote includes and what remains uncertain, such as parts timing or a further visit. Beside it, list the full replacement arrangement: appliance price, delivery, installation, removal and fit. Include any existing coverage and your household’s needs. This keeps the decision tied to your actual options rather than a blanket age limit or a percentage rule.

Your questions, answered.

Is there one appliance age when replacement is always better?

No. Condition, the identified fault, repair cost, parts availability and replacement fit all matter. Previous problems and your household’s needs also affect the choice. Ask for the findings and proposed work before deciding.

Is the service call free if I decide to replace the appliance?

The service call is waived with a completed repair. An assessment without a completed repair is not covered by that offer. Confirm the diagnostic charge and any applicable travel charge before arranging the visit.

What should I ask about the repair warranty?

Ask which work and parts are covered, the applicable period and how to request a follow-up. Our published 90-day period for a repair with parts applies to labour; any applicable parts warranty should be discussed separately.
