Microwave running but not heating? What to tell us.

Microwave running without heating? Check the selected function, note the symptoms and arrange service without opening the outer cover.

Modern built-in microwave in a fitted kitchen

Separate running from heating.

Record whether a cooking program or only the kitchen timer was selected; a timer counting down is not a heating cycle. Follow the model’s instructions for normal controls and door closure. If a cooking cycle runs but food remains cold, choose Not heating and tell us whether the light, fan and turntable operate. Do not run the microwave empty to reproduce the problem.

Review settings using your model’s manual.

Check whether you selected a cooking function rather than only a timer. Close the door normally without forcing it. Some models have a demonstration mode that operates the controls without heating; use your own manual to identify the setting instead of trying an unrelated reset sequence.

Leave the cabinet and electrical parts closed.

Leave the outer cover and installed mounting in place, even if the microwave is unplugged. Internal components can retain a hazardous electrical charge, and repair assessment requires appropriate equipment. Do not bypass a door interlock or test internal parts. Stop using a microwave with a damaged door, sparks or a burning smell, and call rather than repeating the cycle.

Tell us how it is installed.

Identify a countertop, over-the-range or built-in microwave, or the microwave section of a combination wall oven. Include the brand and model if accessible. We review service suitability and access before confirming the appointment; there is no need to remove the appliance to request help.

A running display does not identify the repair.

Timer settings and model-specific demonstration modes can explain some apparent no-heat complaints. If a normal cooking function was selected and food remained cold, the heating system, controls and door operation need assessment. The sound of the fan or movement of the turntable cannot confirm a particular component. Record what already happened rather than attempting an internal test.

Your questions, answered.

Can the light and turntable work while food stays cold?

Yes. Describe that combination when requesting service, and check whether a cooking function rather than only the timer was selected. Those observations help explain the problem, but do not establish which internal part needs repair.

Is an unplugged microwave safe to open?

Do not open the outer cover. Internal components can retain a hazardous electrical charge after unplugging. Leave internal diagnosis, door interlocks and installed mounting to an appropriately equipped service professional.

Should I book the same way for a countertop or built-in microwave?

Choose Microwave and describe its installation, brand and accessible model number. We review the model, access and service suitability before confirming the appointment. You do not need to remove it to submit a request.

Manufacturer references.

Check the owner’s manual for your exact model before following care instructions.
