APPLIANCE SPECIALISTS · REPAIR GUIDES
Dishwasher leaving dishes dirty? Start with the pattern.
Dishwasher not cleaning dishes? Compare rack results, loading, cycle and detergent choices, and know when recurring poor washing needs assessment.

Which dishes are affected?
Compare food residue with cloudy glassware and wet dishes; these results do not necessarily have the same cause. Note whether poor cleaning affects one rack or the whole load, whether the program finishes and whether water remains afterwards. That pattern helps describe a dishwasher repair request without declaring that the wash pump has failed.
Review loading and routine care.
Follow your model’s loading guide so dishes do not block the spray arms or detergent dispenser. Choose a suitable program for the load and use automatic dishwasher detergent, not hand dish soap. Clean an accessible filter only as instructed in the owner’s manual. These routine measures can help ordinary wash performance, but a persistent change, error or leak calls for an assessment rather than repeated test cycles. Manufacturer guidance: Whirlpool: loading, cycle and detergent guidance for poor cleaning.
When a service visit makes sense.
If the same poor result returns with appropriate loading and routine care, record the program, detergent used and any error message. Mention whether the dispenser opened and whether water remained after the cycle. Stop using the appliance if water leaks onto the floor.
For example: “The lower rack looks clean, but food remains on the upper rack after the normal program.” Include the brand and accessible model number when requesting an assessment.
What if loading changes do not help?
Persistent poor washing may need checks beyond routine care, including water circulation, dispensing and the selected program’s operation. A recurring result on one rack gives different information from residue throughout the load. Tell us whether detergent remained in the dispenser, the program finished and drainage changed. Those observations are more useful than ordering a wash pump based on dirty dishes alone.
Your questions, answered.
Why is one rack dirtier than the other?
Rack placement and blocked spray paths can affect results, while a recurring change may need further assessment. Follow the model’s loading guide and note which rack is affected. That pattern alone does not identify a pump or spray-arm fault.
Does cloudy glassware mean the dishwasher is not washing?
Cloudiness, food residue and wet dishes are different results. Describe which you see, the cycle and detergent used, and whether the issue affects the whole load. A description of the pattern helps avoid treating every complaint as the same repair.
Can I book if normal filter care and loading have not helped?
Yes. Select Dishwasher and the closest poor-washing issue, or Other / Not sure. Include the model if accessible and what you have already tried within the owner’s instructions. We assess the fault before explaining repair options.
