Dishwasher not draining: what the remaining water tells you.
Understand retained dishwasher water, distinguish it from a leak and prepare a clear drainage repair request.

Did the program finish?
A paused or interrupted program may still have water inside. Note whether the cycle finished, an error appeared or the machine stopped before the final drain. Use the model’s manual for its normal cancel or drain controls; do not keep restarting a cycle that fails.
Describe the location of the water.
Water standing in the tub after a completed cycle is different from water leaking onto the floor. Some water may remain below the filter area by design; the normal level depends on the model. Tell us where you can see water rather than reaching into the sump.
If water is leaking outside, stop using the dishwasher. Leave pump covers, wiring and built-in removal to the service assessment. Any routine filter cleaning should follow the owner’s manual.
The drain path needs assessment.
The filter, drain route, installation and pump operation can all be relevant. Standing water does not prove that the pump has failed. Mention recent installation or sink plumbing changes, as well as the exact display code.
Choose Not draining for water left inside. If the main concern is an external leak, use Leaking water and explain when it appears.
What can affect the drain path?
A filter restriction, drain-route problem, installation change or pump fault can produce similar complaints. Check only the ordinary filter-care and cancel/drain instructions in your model’s manual. Do not pour drain-opening chemicals into the dishwasher or remove pump covers. If water remains after the normal controls are used, describe its level and any recent sink-plumbing work when requesting assessment. Your questions, answered.
Is a little water below the filter always a fault?
No. Some models retain water in that area during normal operation. Check your owner’s manual and describe the level you can see. Water across the tub after a completed program is a different observation from water below the filter.
Should I use a drain cleaner to clear the dishwasher?
No. Drain-opening chemicals do not belong inside the dishwasher and can damage it. Use only manufacturer-approved routine care. Persistent standing water needs assessment of the drain route and appliance rather than a guessed chemical fix.
Which issue fits water leaking onto the kitchen floor?
Stop using the appliance and select Leaking water. Say where and when the water appeared, and mention any standing water inside as well. Leave the built-in dishwasher installed and discuss the next step with us.
